Types of Grids

There are several types of grids the designer can choose from. Perhaps the simplest method is to use the rule of thirds. This involves dividing a page into thirds with two equally spaced vertical and/or horizontal lines so that important compositional elements can be placed along these lines or intersections. This method is also commonly used in photography. Another popular method uses the golden ratio (approximately 1.618)  for proportioning. This ratio has been studied by mathematicians for its presence throughout the universe and has been used for centuries by architects, artists and book designers for it’s aesthetically pleasing qualities. My personal favorite method is to divide a page into several equal sized columns, which is often used in newspapers and magazines. These types of publications also commonly use a baseline grid, which is a set of horizontal lines on a page that the baseline of all type sits on.

Why Use It?

During the negotiations of independence from the French, the territory of New Caledonia requested that the government of the metropolis, chaired by François Mitterrand, build a center in Noumea for the promotion of Kanak culture and dedicated to the memory of the political leader Jean Marie Tjibaou, assassinated in 1989.

Concept

It sought to make a tribute to a culture based on respect for its history and traditions, past, present and future, as well as its sensitivity. the project was based on the indigenous population of that part of the pacific, its culture and its symbols which are still very alive.

Chuck Close

Charles thomas 'Chuck' Close is an American painter and photographer who achieved fame as a photo realist, through his massive-scale portraits.

_ Born july 5, 1940 at Washington, US

Chuck did poorly in school but found solace in making art. After earning his MFA Yale in 1964, Chuck took his place atop the American art world by creating large-scale, photo-realist portraits that have creativity blurred the distinction between photography and painting. 

Chuck has endeavored to expand his contribution to portraiture through the mastery of such varied drawing and painting techniques as ink, graphite, pastel watercolor, crayon, finger painting, and stamp-pad ink on paper; printmaking techniques, such as Mezzotint, etching woodcuts, linocuts, and silkscreens as well as handmade paper collage and Polaroid photographs.

Chuck own health took a terrible turn around this time as well, when a kidney infection landed him in bed foe almost a year. Through all of this however, chuck deepened his love for painting and art in general.

Richard Paul Lohse

A Swiss painter and graphic artist and one of the main representatives of the concrete and constructive art. He was born 13 September in Zurich in 1902 and died 16 September 1988 in Swiss.

The young Lohse dreams of becoming a painter. However his wish to study in Paris is thwarted due to his difficult economic circomstances. Loshe the autodidact, paints expressive, late cubist still life. In the 1930s his work as a a graphic artist and book designer puts him among the pioneers of modern Swiss graphic design in his painting he work on curved and diagonal constructions.

he attitudes implicit in Lohse's work, including strong and still radical ideas about society, are very interesting, both as to what is older and what newer. The squares and rectangles comprise schemes that repeat or vary with colors that correspondingly repeat or vary. This way of working which now is common to lots of us, didn't exist before Lohse and some others. It's not the way that Mondrian, Malevich, or Van Doesburg worked. In Lohse's work there is the end of the European compositional tradition, a good end, and also there is the beginning of much that is still beginning to develop. (Donald Judd, 1988)

In this subject I learned about What is Grid system? Who use Grid system? Why Use it? When it use? Grid system is a structure of  two dimensional strait line it is Vertical and Horizontal. Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio, Columns, Baseline Grid  these are the type of the grid. Then I did research in Internet and took some picture based on Grid System around my college campus. I research about designers who using grid system with their design and I found some designer of them. They are Renzo Piano his name resonating all throughout the world of architecture. In Task 3 I did my own grid system. I took a leaf as my subject metal and I draw the middle part from the leaf. After dun the sketches I come out the design with wire sculpture.After my first sculpture done I develop my ideas to make it straight line. I develop draw my ideas and did one more sculpture with rope.For the Task 4 I did a an A5 book and an A1 poster. The idea of local identity has become universal; it has be reduced, simplified, and, in some respects, made obsolete by the reach of consistent global marketing. In this task, responded to a specific outdoor site. For this task my tittle was Nature at Mantin. As my lecture said I went to Mantin Town took photos based on my tittle.photos I gather some information and history of mantin town and whit this every things I did my an A5 book with 16 pages full color. I used thread to bind the book. In this book I gave information of Mantin and Mantin’s nature things.In this module I learned about grid system, how to make own grid, how the sketches make come out with a sculpture, sketches developing ideas, take photos, do a book and poster and more. My lecture gave some ideas and information to developing my artwork.

Visual Communication and Culture Meaning

Meaning of Visual Communication as the name suggests is communication through visual aid and is describe as the conveyance of idea and information in forms that can be read or looked upon. Visual Communication in part or whole relies on vision, and is primarily presented or expressed with two dimensional image, it includes: signs, typography, drawing design, illustration, color and electronic resources.

Definition visual communication is the conveyance of ideas and information in forms that can be read or viewed. This includes in Graphic Design, Illustration and animation.

Based on my understanding, a good visual communication is based on meaning comprehension by the audience, not on personal aesthetic or artistic preference which is there are not judge a good visual communication based on beauty and ugliness. Visual Communication is the methods that graphic designers have to use in their professional practice. Visual Communication also take an important place on the World Wide Web. Visual Communication include visual symbol and communication the two basic concept of visual symbol just as its name implies is refers to the human visual organ, eyes can see can represent things must be the symbol. Its is to point to information the sender to the receiver using symbol information process. Also may be between individual communication, such as all the creatures, between people  and nature people  and environment and body of information communication.

Quick communication is possible. The use of pictures and symbols is very easy for a fast communication. The receiver gets the idea fast. Visual communication does not any further explanation for the receiver or by the sender. Visual communication is discussed as; the cost of going visual communication is very high. There should be a high consumption of time and needs experts to be appointed. Preparation of visual communication objects take lot of hard work and dedication. Visual media alone is inefficient. It is done with the help of other media such as audio, computer based media. 

Culture refers to the cumulative deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, religion notions of time, roles, spatial relations, concepts of the universe, and material objects and possessions acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. The system of knowledge shared by a relatively large group of people. Its broadest sense is cultivated behavior; that is the totality of a person’s learned, accumulated experience which is socially transmitted, or more briefly, behavior though social learning. Culture is symbolic communication. Some of its symbols includes a group’s skills, knowledge attitudes, values and motives. The meanings of the symbols are learned and deliberately perpetuated in a society through its institutions.

Understanding the different meanings and types of culture is important. When think about different examples of culture, it helps to give a better understanding of the world around and of the ideas, beliefs and value that experience every day.

Component 1 (Mehndi / Henna)

                                              

Today mehndi designs have become more fashionable trend across the world. Even from children to older women likes to decorate and color their hands with mehndi. In modern world, even the mehndi artist also like to use trendy and simple fashionable designs to fulfill the hands and make the hands more beautiful. Mehndi or Henna is derived from the Sanskrit word Mendhika. The use of mehandi is described in the earliest Hindu Vedic ritual books. Practice mainly in India. Mehndi  also knew as henna in the western world is the application of as temporary form of skin decoration, popularized by Pakistani, Bangladesh and the Maldives as well as by expatriate communities from those countries also use mehndi. It typically applied during Hindu festival many women have Henna applied to their hands and feet as show on figure 1. It is usually drawn on the palms feet, where the design will be clearest due to contrast with the lighter skin on these surfaces, which naturally contain less of the pigment melanin. It’s was originally used as a form of decoration mainly for Hindu brides.

Henna have an interesting and colorful past. There is much to know and learn about the origin and history of mehndi and henna body tattoos. Henna and mehndi have been used for 5000 years and are still decorating our hand and foot todays. The most common association with henna is it’s use within the Indian culture used as a ceremonial art from for wedding ceremonies. Some of the oldest and most widespread henna applications are those for fingernails. Fingernails consist of keratin, the same protein material as skin and hair, so henna stains fingernails in the same way as it does skin or hair. Henna strengthens fingernails and cuticles by binding to them keratin stands.

The design is very apt for wedding and for the modern bride. The design is kept quite minimal and uses predominantly floral motifs. Also there is quite a lot of use of sparkle and golden glitter from the glitter tube. The design is further enhanced using beads and stones in contrasting shades. The design is also unique because of  the use of glitter. The design will surely attract a lot of attention a lot of attention and appreciation on wedding day.

The design is started from the wrist and ended in the tip of the finger which makes more elegant and cover the people eyes with simple and stylish look. The tip is crossly shades followed shades followed by the lines and floral patterns.

In the middle of the palm is quite free and the surroundings are decorated flowers, motifs and like patterns. The fan like line pattern in the tip of the fingers makes the hands beautiful and stunning. The above mehndi designs are hassle free design to design hands with floral patterns and leaves. Arabic mehndi design are now a day’s becoming very popular among brides and many artist use Arabic mehndi style as the inspiration for their designs. Brides looking for unique patterns and who love black mehndi can give this one a try. It is very subtle with no cluttered design. The tips are also kept open. Any small cuts, burns or scratches that the couple might sustain during the course of so many ritual and customs can be healed easily with the application of mehndi. It improve blood circulation in the body and enhances general health. The initial practice of applying mehndi in ancient times began in order to protect the couple and keep them healthy.

In the modern world, people prefer to be modern and they don’t want to follow olden style. Everyone wants to get some new. Mostly the colors are red, blue, green. These designs mostly became popular in the wedding ceremonies. So they just moderate it in new manner just by adding colors. Colorful mehandi designs.
